Signaling 1 : (Fire Pr) Communication between pumpers by hand, voice, or radio. Note: If hand signaling is used, the standard signals are hold the water: hands overhead, spread wide, palms toward the person being signaled; charge lines or increase pressure (if lines are already charged): arm outstretched to side and waved up and down; lower pressure: arm waved horizontally from across chest to the side (same signal back from the operator indicates inability to increase pressure); shut down but do not breakup: arms overhead in inverted V; break up: same signal as above when already shut down. Horn or bell signals are used between the driver and tillerman on tractor-trailer ladder trucks: one ring or blast: stop immediately; two, proceed forward; three, reverse. Signals from the tillerman for forward and reverse are repeated by the driver before he takes action
