Significance 1 : (Statist) The probability that an apparent difference between two sets of data is a real difference and not due to chance. Note: Significance tests of carefully selected hypotheses allow one to judge the acceptability of the difference as real or chance. A difference is usually significant if one is 95% or more certain that it is real
