Site Category 2 : Category of site geologic conditions affecting earthquake ground motions based on descriptions of the geology, or measurements of the S-wave velocity standard penetration test, shear strength, or other properties of the subsurface. For example, in the USA geologic site condition were classified by NEHRP into 6 categories ranging from A (hard rock) to F (very soft soil) and different amplification factors were assigned for them.
