Skin 04 : (1) (Build) A veneer of glass, metal, stone, or other material suspended on metal frames attached the outside of a building. (2) (Anat) A thin layer of tissue covering the outer surface of the body; divided into two main strata: the superficial scarfskin and the deeper true skin. The scarfskin called the epithelium, epidermis, or cuticle. The true skin is known as the corium or the derma. The ski: tissues contain hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous (oil' glands, nerve endings, tactile corpuscles (touch sensors) blood vessels, and muscle fibers. Note: The average adult has approx. 21. 5 square feet of skin area: 9% or the head and neck, 9% each . or posterior chest and lower back, 9% each on anterior chest and abdomen, 1% genital area, 9% each upper extremity, and 18% on each lower extremity. The remaining 9% is distributed between these major areas. For each year under 1C, subtract 1% for each leg and add to the head area
