Autokinesis

Autokinesis : Night-time visual illusion that a stationary light is moving, which becomes apparent after several seconds of staring at the light. This condition can affect Pilots on dark nights when there are few visual cues in particular when flying in formation or refueling behind a tanker. To prevent, or overcome this phenomenon, the pilot should: (1) Shift their gaze frequently to avoid prolonged fixation on light sources. (2) Attempt to view a target with a reference to stationary structures or landmarks. (3) Make eye, head, and body movements to eliminate the illusion. (4) Monitor the flight instruments to prevent or resolve any perceptual conflict
