Spud 6


Spud 6 : To start the actual drilling of a well. The first section of the hole is drilled with a large-diameter spudding bit down several hundred feet to accommodate the surface pipe which may be 8 to 20 inches in diameter, depending upon the depth of the well to which the well will ultimately be drilled. The surface pipe is cemented into this hole to protect the surface formations which might contain potable water
