Surface Casing 5 : The shallowest casing string required to protect fresh water zones, to provide sufficient pressure control during drilling operations, and to support the wellhead. It is not to be confused with a drilling conductor pipe nor with a large caisson in an offshore area which enclosed several separate and unique surface casings at the surface. (Bul 12A)
