Auxiliary Police 26 : United States: (2) Arlington County, VA: Arlington County, Virginia's police department maintains an Auxiliary Police unit, which provides a variety of law enforcement services and support to the police department and county residents. The Auxiliary unit was founded in 1942 in response to a shortage of full-time officers due to World War II. Today, the unit is part of the Special Operations section of the department, with Auxiliary officers providing uniformed road and bike patrol, as well as supporting events throughout the county. The unit assists in training exercises for full-time officers, and provides a variety of services to the community, ranging from security surveys, to motorist assistance, to child safety seat installations
