A traditional unit of land area in Brazil, varying in size from one locality to another but generally at least 3000 square meters (0.3 hectare or 0.741 acre). In the states of Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe the tarefa equals 3025 square meters (0.3025 hectare or 0.748 acre); in Ceará the unit equals 3630 square meters (0.363 hectare or 0.897 acre); and in Bahia the tarefa is 4356 square meters (0.4356 hectare or 1.076 acre).
