Temperature Inversion 1

Temperature Inversion 1 :

(Meteor) An increase in temperature with height in the lower atmosphere caused by radiative cooling of the lower layers of air, by subsidence heating of an upper layer, or by advection of warm air over cooler air or of cooler air under warm air. Inversions interfere with vertical air movement, so that smoke, air pollution, and smog is trapped near the ground. See also: Lapse Rate
