Thermal Ignition : (1) The initiation of combustion by supplying heat until the ignition point is reached. (2) The heat generation produced by reaction of a dust with air or by a mass with a hot surface reaches a point where it is equal to the heat loss arising from cooling to its surroundings. The situation is unstable and thermal ignition is likely to occur
