Tide-Well


Tide-Well : The part of a tidal gauge which consists of a tube with a small orifice on the bottom through which water enters as the tide changes and which filters short term water level changes caused by wave action. Within the tide-well a float oscillates freely and is connected to a instrument which records in digital or analog form sea level variations with time
