Tissue Weighting Factor 2

Tissue Weighting Factor 2 : Different probabilities exist for the occurrence of stochastic radiation effects in various organs and tissues. This different sensitivity to stochastic radiation damage is considered in the ICRP Publication 60 and in the Euratom basic standards for Radiation Protection dated May 1996 by the tissue weighting factor in calculations of the effective dose. To calculate the effective dose, the individual organ dose values are multiplied by the respective tissue weighting factor and the products added. The numerical values indicated above are valid legal EU-regulations for calculating the effective dose. In 2007 ICRP published a new set of tissue weighting factors (ICRP Publ. 103: The 2007 Recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection) given below. These data are adopted in the proposal of the new EU Basic Safety Standards (European Commission, Proposal for a Council Directive, COM(2011) 593 final, 2011-09-29) to be accepted by the Council of the European Union.
