Toxicity 18 : The capacity of a substance to produce injury or harm to the body and the conditions under which this occurs. The conditions which must be specified for the proper characterization of the toxicity of a substance include: the species referred to, the concentration of the toxic substance, amount absorbed, route of entry, duration of exposure, body weight and target organ. Toxicity is dependent on the chemical and physical properties of the substance
