Accretionary Wedge

Accretionary Wedge : Trench sediments and volcanics that accumulate and deform where oceanic and continental plates collide. These sediments are scraped off the top of the downgoing oceanic crustal plate and are added as a generally wedge-shaped mass to the leading edge of the continental plate (Von Huene and Scholl, 1991; Duff 1993; See: subduction and tectonic plate)
