Tree 2 : (n.) (1-a) A tall perennial woody plant having a main trunk and branches forming a distinct elevated crown; includes both gymnosperms and angiosperms. Examples: Yggdrasil: (Norse mythology) A huge ash tree whose roots and branches hold the earth and Heaven and Hell together. Type of: Ligneous Plant, Woody Plant: A plant having hard lignified tissues or woody parts especially stems. (1-b) A figure that branches from a single root. Syn: Tree Diagram. Types: (1) Cladogram: A tree diagram used to illustrate phylogenetic relationships. (2) Stemma: A tree diagram showing a reconstruction of the transmission of manuscripts of a literary work. Type of: Plane Figure, Two-Dimensional Figure: A two-dimensional shape. (v.) (1-a) Chase an animal up a tree. Type of: Chase, Chase After, Dog, Give Chase, Go After, Tag, Tail, Track, Trail: Go after with the intent to catch. (1-b) Force a person or an animal into a position from which he cannot escape. Syn: Corner. Type of: Channelise, Channelize, Direct, Guide, Head, Maneuver, Manoeuver, Manoeuvre, Point, Steer: Direct the course; determine the direction of traveling. (1-c) Plant with trees. Type of: Plant, Set: Put or set (seeds, seedlings, or plants) into the ground. (1-d) Stretch (a shoe) on a shoetree. Syn: Shoetree.
