Trench 3 : A long, narrow, characteristically very deep and asymmetrical depression of the sea floor, with relatively steep sides. A deep ocean trench represents a maximum relief feature found on the earth's surface which may extend for hundreds of kilometers. A trench marks the boundary between major oceanic and continental plates where subduction may be taking place as oceanic crust sinks underneath the continental crust because of its greater density
