Tsunami Earthquake 4 : An earthquake that produces an unusually large tsunami relative to the earthquake magnitude (Kanamori, 1972). Tsunami earthquakes are characterized by a very shallow focus, fault dislocations greater than several meters, and fault surfaces smaller than for normal earthquakes. They are also slow earthquakes, with slippage along their faults occurring more slowly than would occur in normal earthquakes. The last events of this type were 1992 Nicaragua and 1996 Chimbote, Peru
