Turbine, Water : A prime mover in which a wheel or runner with vanes is supplied with water under pressure. The water is fed to the wheel via a number of stationary guide vanes, with the result that the wheel and shaft revolve, the wheel or runner having the reverse action of a centrifugal pump impeller. A turbine is generally used as a prime mover where water under pressure is available from natural sources
