Turbulence 4 : In a fluid flow, when inertia forces are dominant comparing with viscous forces (high Reynolds numbers), even macroscopically steady flows experiences microscopic random velocity fluctuations. Turbulence consists on these random velocity fluctuations and its magnitude is a basic characteristic of a fluid flow as it has direct impacts on mixing capabilities and boundary layer interference
