Valve, Pressure/Vacuum (or Breather Valve) : A valve which opens and closes a relief vent according to whether the pressure is above or below a certain value. It is incorporated, for example, in the cargo tank venting system of tankers, the operation of which, when appropriately set, automatically prevents excessive pressure or vacuum in the tank or tanks concerned. On a tanker such a valve may be manually jacked open or by-passed when the vent system must handle large gas flows during loading or gas freeing
