Variability 1

Variability 1 : (a) A source of uncertainty in risk assessment, due to the fact that many parameters are best described not as point values but as probability distributions. [AIHA, 2000: Risk Assessment Principles for the Industrial Hygienist]; (b) Variability arises from true heterogeneity across people, places or time, and can affect the precision of exposure estimates and the degree to which they can be generalized. The types of variability include: spatial variability, temporal variability, and inter-individual variability. [USEPA, 1997b: Exposure Factors Handbook]
