Volcanic Gases 1 : Are produced from exsolution of volatiles, which were originally dissolved in magma at great pressure (depth), during magma rise into, and storage within, lower-pressure regions. Such gases are released from the magmatic system either passively (when the volcano is quiescent) or abruptly upon rapid expansion and eruption. Explosively expanding volcanic gases initiate and propel eruptions
