Baroclinic 2

Baroclinic 2 : field (Meteor) A state of stratification in a fluid in which isobaric surfaces (surfaces of constant pressure) intersect isosteric surfaces (surfaces of constant density). Air temperature has a gradient on the isobaric surface and the me geostrophic wind is in vertical shear. Note: The number of isobaric-isosteric solenoids per unit area intersecting a given surface is a measure of baroclinity, which is often accompanied by intense local winds. Also called: Barocliny; Baroclinicity. Zero baroclinity is called Barotropy. Cf: Barotropic Field
