Washington Metropolitan Area Warning System (WAWAS) :
The Washington Area Warning System (WAWAS), is a portion of the NAWAS, but is not tied directly to the NAWAS. It is operated and maintained by the FEMA Operations Center. While the NAWAS is Nationwide, the WAWAS is dedicated to the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. On a day-today basis, the DC Office of Emergency Management manages the WAWAS due to the amount of local information disseminated across the system. OPM uses the WAWAS to pass duty information to the various Federal departments and agencies located in the Washington, DC, area in the event of bad weather or other business affecting government operations.
