Weissenstein

Weissenstein :

An electrolytic process for making hydrogen peroxide by the electrolysis of sulfuric acid. Peroxodisulfuric acid, H2S2O8, is formed first and this is then hydrolyzed via peroxomonosulfuric acid: 2H2SO4 + H2S2O8 + H2 ? H2S2O8 + H2O + H2SO5 + H2SO4 and H2SO5 + H2O + H2O2 + H2SO4. First operated in 1908 at the sterreichische Chemische Werke, Weissenstein, Austria and then by Degussa, Germany. This, and the other electrolytic processes, was made obsolete by the invention of the AO proces. (Check source for accuracy of chemical formula)
