(Chem) A volatile, colorless, highly flammable liquid, CH3CHO, bp 690F (220C), obtained by partial oxidation of ethyl alcohol. Vapor forms explosive mixtures with air over a wide range of concentrations. Used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of resins and other organic compounds.
