Arson 01 : (Law) The willful burning of a dwelling, building, structure, or other property, including one's own. Often motivated by profit or other gain or to conceal another crime. Degrees of arson are first degree, burning of dwellings; second, burning of buildings; third, burning of other property; and fourth, attempted arson. Negligent arson is the starting of a fire through carelessness. Cf: incendiarism.
