Artery 1
Artery 1 : (1) (Transp) A main channel in any branching system of communication or transportation. (2) (Anat) A blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart. Cne of two major sets of vascular tubes in the body, the other being the veins. Arteries carry blood away from the heart. Pulmonary arteries carry blood to the lungs to be oxygenated and systemic arteries carry the blood to the capillaries, which in turn supply the body cells with needed oxygen and nutrition. Blood is transferred via capillaries to the veins, which return it to the heart
