Berylliosis 1

Berylliosis 1 : Beryllium poisoning, usually involving the lungs and less often the skin, subcutaneous tissues, lymph nodes, liver, and other structures. Beryllium fumes, its oxide and salts, and finely divided dust all may cause a tissue reaction when inhaled or implanted in the skin. The acute form is basically a toxic or allergic pneumonitis sometimes accompanied by rhinitis, pharyngitis, and tracheobronchitis. The more common chronic form is characterized by the development of granulomas and a diffuse interstitial inflammatory reaction; the clinical and pathological findings may be indistinguishable from those of sarcoidosis
