Beta Radiation 6 : Ionizing radiation consisting of fast moving, positively or negatively charged elementary particles emitted from atomic nuclei during radioactive decay. Beta radiation is more penetrating, but less ionizing than alpha radiation. Negatively charged beta particles are identical to electrons; positively charged beta particles are known as positrons. Both are stopped by clothing or a thin sheet of metal
