Bromotrifluoromethane (BTF) 1
Bromotrifluoromethane (BTF) 1 : CBrF3. Halon 1301. Very effective extinguishing agent. Non-corrosive, colourless, odourless and electrically non-conducting at room temperature. Usually stored as a liquid under pressure. Vaporises instantly on discharge. Used for electrical and flammable liquid fires. It has a lox toxicity so it can be used in total flood systems in occupied spaces, no other gaseous agent has this advantage. Small systems can be used for marine engine protection, large (31/2 t) systems for protecting oil processing buildings, and the protection of computer room facilities. Used in aircraft. Also used as a refrigerant - Freon
