Calcine 2 : To heat a solid to a high temperature below the melting point in order to drive off volatile constituents, convert the material to a powder, or cause other changes, such as oxidation or reduction. Originally referred specifically to the heating of calcium carbonate (i.e., limestone) to drive off carbon dioxide gas and form calcium oxide (i.e., quicklime). Note: Calcine may also be used as a noun, referring to the product of calcining
