CALL 4

CALL 4 :

(ICT) Computer Assisted Language Learning. A term which came into favour in the early 1980s, replacing the older term CALI (Computer Assisted Language Instruction). Often associated (wrongly) with an old-fashioned approach to the use of ICT in language learning and teaching, but the leading professional associations, i.e. EUROCALL, CALICO and IALLT, interpret CALL as meaning the use of computers in the learning and teaching of foreign languages in the broadest sense, from the use of word-processors to the use of the Internet. See: CALI, CELL, TELL. See: Section 1.1, Module 1.4, headed What is CALL? and Section 2, Module 1.4, headed History of CALL
