Calorific Value 5

Calorific Value 5 : The number of heat units obtained by the complete combustion of unit mass of fuel. The numerical value obtained for the calorific value depends on the units used, e. g. British thermal units (BTU)/lb; MJ/kg for solid and liquid fuels and BTU/ft3 or MJ/m3 for gaseous fuels. The Gross Calorific Value is the total amount of heat produced when the products of combustion are cooled to room temperature and includes heat evolved during the condensation of any water formed. The Net Calorific Value is equal to the gross calorific value minus the latent and sensible heat in the products at the temperature at which they escape from the combustion. Values quoted in literature are nearly always gross calorific values
