Candela 5

Candela 5 : One candela = one `new' candle. Candle power is the unit measure of the intensity (strength) of a source of light. One candle-power was originally the power of a wax candle of a certain fixed size, special lamps (e. g. pentane lamps) are now used; the `new' candle is 1/60 of the radiating power of 1 square centimetre of a black body at the temperature of melting platinum. A 40 watt lamp (ordinary reading lamp) gives about 36 candle-power; a 100 watt lamp gives about 120 candle-power. Luminance is measured as candela per square metre
