Canyon 4 : The long, narrow, and deep, thick-walled concrete structure in which fissionable materials that had been irradiated in the reactors were chemically separated from fission products and from each other. The hot canyon was the more heavily shielded canyon in which the majority of the fission products were removed and the desired products were separated. The less heavily shielded canyon was referred to as the warm canyon
