Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 06

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 06 :

(Chem) A colorless gas, CO2, with pungent odor and acid taste, sublimation point -78. 5oC at atmospheric pressure, triple point -56. 6oC at 1 kg/cm2 pressure. Note: Used as dry ice in refrigeration and as a liquid or gas in carbonated beverages, fire extinguishers, chemical manufacturing, and in hot metal processes (e. g. , welding) as an inert gas shield. Pressurized CO2 cartridges are used to inflate life rafts. The gas is formed during respiration and as a product of combustion of all carbonaceous fuels. In 3 to 5% concentrations, CO2 is a respiratory stimulant. Concentrations of 8 to 10% by volume are asphyxiating. Higher concentrations are toxic. Maximum allowable concentration is 5000 ppm for 8 hours
