Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) : A policy which was implemented by the United States Government in 1983, that attempts to stimulate private-sector business in the Caribbean and Central America through tariff reductions and other incentives. The CBI has been viewed as a measure to improve the economic conditions of the U.S's allies in the region, and a means to ensuring their support for U. S. political policies.
