Caustic Point

Caustic Point :

A point on the Earth's surface where the rate of change of the epicentral distance traveled by a seismic ray, respectively of its slowness, with the change of its take-off angle changes its sign. A large concentration of arriving seismic energy will generally be observed at the caustic point. See: Figs. 2.28 to 2.30 in Chapter 2 of this Manual
