Common Gate Interface

Common Gate Interface :

(ICT) Short for 'Common Gate Interface'. CGI is a protocol that allows data to be processed on a server. The CGI bin is the folder where the CGI program is stored and allowed to run. CGI 'scripts' are computer programs within the CGI bin that process data in some way. For example it is very common to have a CGI form handler on a web server. A CGI 'Form-to-email' handler will accept data from a form on a web page. The handler makes some validation checks and then forwards the data in an email. comp.* - Discussion of computer-related topics. news.* - Discussion of Usenet itself. sci.* - Discussion of scientific subjects rec.* - Discussion of recreational activities (e.g. games and hobbies).?soc.* - Socialising and discussion of social issues. talk.* - Discussion of contentious issues such as religion and politics. misc.* - Miscellaneous discussion-anything which doesn't fit in the other hierarchies
