Common Security

Common Security : Underpinned by the idea that security is best achieved with others rather than against them. Common security is promoted through arms control and confidence and security-building measures (CS13Ms). It originated in the LW Palme Commission Report of 1982 but found energetic political support in former Soviet premier, Mikhail Gorbachev, and former Australian foreign minister, Gareth Evans. It is premised on the belief that the security dilemma can be overcome or at least lessened
