A variation of the Hall-H?roult process for making aluminum metal, in which the electrolyte is a mixture of aluminum fluoride, sodium fluoride, and barium chloride. The process is operated at a lower temperature than the Hall-H roult process, and the product has a purity of 99.99 percent instead of 99.5 percent
