Comparative Risk Assessment 1
Comparative Risk Assessment 1 : A process that generally uses a professional judgment approach to evaluate the relative magnitude of effects and set priorities among a wide range of environmental problems (e.g., U.S. EPA, 1993d). Some applications of this process are similar to the problem formulation portion of an ecological risk assessment in that the outcome may help select topics for further evaluation and help focus limited resources on areas having the greatest risk reduction potential. In other situations, a comparative risk assessment is conducted more like a preliminary risk assessment. For example, EPA's Science Advisory Board used professional judgment and an ecological risk assessment approach to analyze future ecological risk scenarios and risk management alternatives (U.S. EPA, 1995e)
