Concrete, Prestressed

Concrete, Prestressed : High tensile steel tendons are stressed against the length of the concrete, which is thus put into compression. The imposed loads are then applied. There are two types of prestressed concrete. (1) Pre-tensioned: the tendons are stretched before the concrete is cast around them. When the concrete has hardened the tendons are released from their anchorage points. (2) Post-tensioned: The tendons are laid loosely in ducts and the concrete cast around the ducts. The tendons are then anchored when the concrete has hardened. The space between the tendons and the ducts is sometimes grouted
