Confined Space 18 : Any enclosed area not designed for human occupancy that has a limited means of entry and egress and in which existing ventilation is not sufficient to ensure that the space is free of a hazardous atmosphere, oxygen deficiency, or other known or potential hazards. Examples are storage tanks, boilers, sewers, and tank cars. A permit-required confined space, as defined by the OSHA standard, is one that requires a permit process and implementation of a comprehensive confined space entry program prior to entry
