Blackout 1 :
(1) (Commun) A fadeout of radio communications due to ionospheric disturbances. (2) (Physiol) Temporary loss of vision, accompanied by dulling of other senses, due to decrease of blood pressure in the eye and consequent lack of oxygen. In more serious cases, loss of consciousness results. Cf: Grayout; Redout. (3) (Civ Def) The extinguish ment of all visible lights in a populated center to deny navigation-al and aiming points to enemy military operations
