Blast 1 : (1) (Techn) A jet of air injected under pressure into a blast furnace or the like to accelerate combustion, or a jet of steam directed into a smokestack to augment thedraft, as in a locomotive. (2) (Mining, Civ Eng) a. The charge of explosives set off at one time in blasting operations. b. To f agment something with an explosive. (3) (Phys) The violent, sudden, and rapid outward movement of a fluid away from a center of high pressure, such as from an explosion.
