Acids
Acids : In most cases an acid is a chemical compound containing hydrogen of which each molecule dissociates in water to give one or more hydrogen ions (the cations) and an anion which consists of the rest of the molecule. The hydrogen may be replaced by reaction with metals or metal oxides or, in solution, by other cations. Reaction of acids with metals often leads to evolution of hydrogen which is flammable. An acid is defined with more generality as a substance that can donate a proton
