Controlled Experiment

Controlled Experiment :

(Psych) An experiment involving two or more similar groups; one, the control group, is held as a standard for comparison, while the other, the test group or experimental group, is subjected to some procedure whose effect one wishes to determine. The groups are usually formed by randomized selection. Note: Both groups must be treated in an identical manner except for the single factor under study. The most reliable controlled experimments (double blind experiments) are those in which neither the subjects nor the experimenter know which group is the test group. In a medical experiment, for example, a third party prepares and numbers pills or other medication, surren dering the identity of the numbers only after all results have been tabulated
